We believe that strong environmental education begins with educators who have access to high-quality, affordable, and accessible professional learning opportunities that inspire connection, curiosity, and confidence in teaching about the environment.
Introducing the TEEA Learning Network: a growing statewide community of educators, partners, and learners connected through environmental education. The TEEA Learning Network is designed to support educators across formal and nonformal settings by creating meaningful opportunities for collaboration, professional growth, shared resources, and place-based learning experiences throughout Tennessee.

The TEEA Learning Network is designed to support educators across formal and nonformal settings by creating meaningful opportunities for collaboration, professional growth, shared resources, and place-based learning experiences throughout Tennessee.
As part of this effort, TEEA is actively building a catalog of professional learning opportunities that support educators at every stage of their environmental education journey. From immersive field experiences and conferences to virtual learning communities and self-paced eeCourses, the Learning Network is intended to make environmental education more accessible, connected, and impactful across the state.
Through the support and partnership of Southeastern Environmental Education Alliance and North American Association for Environmental Education, TEEA is expanding access to high-quality online professional learning opportunities through a growing series of environmental education eeCourses designed to connect Tennessee educators with regional expertise, collaborative learning communities, and nationally informed best practices in the field.
At the same time, TEEA’s statewide Environmental Education eeCredential initiative continues to advance through the ongoing work of the organization’s Advisory Group, a collaborative network of leaders representing environmental education, higher education, nonprofit organizations, agencies, and schools across Tennessee. This long-term effort is focused on developing a meaningful and accessible credentialing pathway that strengthens environmental education leadership, supports educator growth, and elevates the field statewide.
Sapelo
Sapelo Island Teacher Excursion
Experience environmental education through immersion, connection, and place-based learning on one of the most ecologically and culturally significant barrier islands on the Atlantic coast. The Sapelo Island Teacher Excursion brings educators together for a multi-day professional learning experience focused on coastal ecology, Gullah Geechee culture, field-based inquiry, environmental literacy, and collaborative curriculum development. Participants will engage directly with scientists, educators, and local experts while building meaningful relationships with fellow educators from across Tennessee. This opportunity is designed to inspire new ideas, deepen understanding of place based education, and provide experiences that educators can bring back to their classrooms, schools, and communities.

TEEA’s eeCourses provide flexible, high quality online professional learning opportunities for educators seeking to strengthen their environmental education practice. Developed in partnership with Southeastern Environmental Education Alliance and North American Association for Environmental Education, these courses connect Tennessee educators with regional and national leaders in the field while fostering collaborative learning communities across the Southeast. Courses are designed to support educators in developing practical strategies, expanding content knowledge, and advancing equitable, interdisciplinary, and standards-aligned environmental education practices.

Tennessee Environmental Education eECredential
COMING THIS FALL!
The Tennessee Environmental Education eeCredential is a developing statewide certification initiative designed to recognize and strengthen excellence in environmental education across Tennessee. Guided by TEEA’s Advisory Group, this collaborative effort is building a meaningful and accessible pathway for educators to demonstrate growth, leadership, and professional competency in environmental education. The eeCredential initiative is grounded in best practices in the field while reflecting Tennessee specific educational priorities, environmental contexts, and community needs. As the program develops, it aims to support a stronger statewide network of educators equipped to lead high quality environmental learning experiences in schools and communities across Tennessee.
